“Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns” George Eliot

Leaves of November

The colours may be fading
The cold nights not aiding
The circle of life still a fact
Use camouflage to distract?

Winter knocking at the door
Trying hard to ignore
Yearn for life weighing more
Growing stronger than before

Monolith

Writing 101, Day Four: A story in a single image

Yesterday, you found inspiration in one word and used it as a springboard for a post idea. Images — including photographs and works of art — can also act as starting points for stories, essays, poems, and personal musings. For this exercise, use one image as the creative spark for today’s post. You might use it as the setting for a story or poem, write about how it makes you feel, or describe a memory conjured by it.

“The gargantuan crystalline structure that towered three thousand feet above the lunar surface was both menacing and bewildering to behold”

Monolith

Tall, dark and mysterious
Standing by itself, all serious
Staring at it, getting nervous
Or maybe just a little delirious

The stone called the monolith
Sounding totally apocalyptic
With a background quite cryptic
Its appearance utterly terrific

Forgetting superstition
By my own admission
Completing my mission
Trusting my intuition
And touching the stone

“Be like the bird who, pausing in her flight awhile on boughs too slight, feels them give way beneath her, and yet sings, knowing she hath wings” Victor Hugo

In Flight

Flying through the air
Without a single care
A beauty with flare
Innocence unaware

Flapping her wings
While the wind sings
Sky feels like spring
A scene well worthy
Of kings

“It’s worked so far, but we are not off yet” Dr McCoy, Star Trek

Live Long and Prosper

Today’s quote is near and dear to every Trekker on this planet called Earth, as quoted by the belowed character Mr Spock on Star Trek. Often also used in social media, is the abbreviation, LLAP.

“Live long and prosper” Mr Spock, Star Trek

The Vulcan salute was devised by Leonard Nimoy, who portrayed the half-Vulcan character Mr. Spock on the original Star Trek television series. A 1968 New York Times interview described the salute or greeting gesture as a “double-fingered version of Churchill’s victory sign”. Nimoy said in that interview that he “decided that the Vulcans were a ‘hand-oriented’ people.

“Laughter is the best revenge for anger” Dalai Lama

I Laugh, There For I Am

Call me crazy
Call me a fool
Or just a simple tool
Laughing, grinning
Face in full leering
Feelings of winning
Life gave you lemons
Or battling with demons
Trying not to worry
Or even feel sorry
For things that cannot change
Rather arrange
Time for a full belly laugh
Several times a day
It isn’t daft
Keeps your mind clear
Throughout the year
When you wake up
Forget the wile
Put on that smile
It is the best make up
Everyone can wear
Which will not tear
Come rain or shine
All will be fine

“Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off” Ira and George Gershwin

Can Do Attitude

(This one is a must sing ;P)

You say neither, I say either
You say potato, I say tomato

Potato, tomato
Let’s call the whole thing off

You say sell, I say buy
You say it can’t be done
I say it will be fun

Oranges, apples
What the hell happened?
They don’t rhyme
I don’t mind
Let’s call the whole thing off

You say I’m boring
I say you snoring
You say it’s very bad
I say don’t be sad

Boring, snoring
“What the hell happened to this, song(?)?”
Let’s call the whole thing off

You say it’s a fake
I say a piece of cake
You say you’re such a jerk
I say it will work

Jerk, work
Let’s call the whole thing off

You say I’m obsessive
I say I’m positive
You prefer negative
I say my glass is full

“What?
You keep loosing the rhyme!”

“Oh, don’t be such a bore!”

“No, I’m just sore,
Because you keep singing off key!”

“Oh, please,
You are even worse, and don’t try to flee!”

Worse, off key
Let’s call the whole thing off

“OK, so let’s try this again one more time?”

“Fine! And this time make it rhyme!”

You say I like it plain
I say you aren’t quite sane
You say It’s not so simple
I say smile and get a dimple

Simple, dimple,
Let’s call the whole thing off

You say I’m going home
I say you don’t like it alone
You say let’s end this song
I say play the gong!

Song, gong
Let’s call the whole thing off

“So what now?
You’re just going to quit?”

“Yeah, that is the idea in ‘going home’, as in leaving!”

“So then, we must part?”

“Oh don’t me smart, have a heart!”

“Maybe try one more time, my way?”

“Like the song title or the highway?”

“No, with the positive attitude!”

“Without the platitude?”

“Fine?”

“Wine?”

*Snort!*

You say I like it here
I say I like everywhere
You say maybe we can
I say let’s can can!

Can, can, yes we can
Let’s call the calling off, off
Now!
